from the book of armaments (chapter 4, verses 16 thru 22)

painting by fernando botero

and the lord did grin, and the people did feast, upon the lambs, and sloth’s, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats

and pancakes, and instant potatoes, and marijuana brownies, and blueberry cough syrup, and prepackaged dry noodles with the little flavor packets in them

and edible panties, and papier-mâché hats, and misspelled fortune cookies, and do-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-doo, and virgins, and dead virgins, and prunes

and mediterranean sea bass, and yogurt stains on the carpet,  and toe jam, and white rabbit afterbirth, and something green and sticky, and tacobell

and the watch i bought my sister on her birthday that didn’t work, and the asshole who sold it to me, and made-for-tv movies, and legends of nintendo wizardry, and a six-pack of industrial sized gurus, and plastic bags, and leftover easter eggs, and same shit different day, and ted turner

and two billion four hundred and seventy four million nine hundred and thirty six thousand five hundred and twenty one gallons of hydrogenated corn syrup

and spam balls, and tree frogs, and the stuff they put in lave lamps even though the warning label says we shouldn’t, and hair spray, and red food dye number five, and a cherry on top, and chocolate sprinkles, and some croutons, and three sprigs of parsley,
                                                                              and it was good

***notes***
this poem was inspired by the classic film “monty python and the quest for the holy grail”, from which the entire first stanza comes directly.
